A long time ago, semiconductors “Time From Concept To Market” were about 2 years on the average. Today the average is about 2 months. A typical Circuit Design Engineer running a race from getting a design working in test simulation to DRC/LVS/(etc.) ready for prototype masks is full of uncertainties and risks.
The obvious solution is to hire contingent workforces to get the project back on schedule and keep it that way. Challenges are immense just to obtain local part time help.
However, help is available all around the world. It just takes the right formula. An individule can effortlessly manage remote production utilizing technologies which have been around for decades. Simple communications tools like “VNC” and “Skype” allows the design engineering team to monitor what is being created almost in real time or as they see fit. This formula will assure design team managers and engineers will meet tough schedule requirements.
